DATES: March 30 - April 1, 2012
LOCATION: 7 W. 34th St. (New York, NY)

The thing that is great about this show is that Artrider managed to get some of the best artists around the country to take a chance on a show in the middle of New York City - where many craft shows come to die - in the hopes that the work they produce would end up in the hands of that very large segment of the population in and around NYC who have money to burn.
It’s a testament to the reputation of Artrider that they were able to attract these artists to the very site where a mega-produced show, One Of A Kind NYC, lasted a grand total of two years.
The venue for the show - 7 West 34th Street - is situated in one of the busiest retail areas of Manhattan . . .

Contemporary Crafts Market - SF |
|
DATES: March 10-11, 2012
LOCATION: Fort Mason (San Francisco, CA)

Held at Fort Mason, which sits right on the San Francisco Bay and offers a great view and relaxing environment if you decide to take a break from what’s going on inside the pavilion, the Contemporary Crafts Market offers everything you would expect from the best shows across the country.
If you are a craft collector or just someone that appreciates really good work, you could spend both days at this show salivating over the quality craftsmanship that is evident.
As an accomplished craft artist looking for a reason to apply to a show in Northern California, you can be confident in the consistency of the work.
All that being said, as with pretty much all shows . . .

American Craft Council Wholesale Show |

DATES: February 22-23, 2012
LOCATION: Baltimore Convention Center (Baltimore, MD)

I purposely didn’t review this show last year because, frankly, I was getting bummed out seeing a show which had been, at one time, the pinnacle of wholesale craft shows, become a ghost town.
I’m not sure exactly what I was expecting to see different this year - perhaps aisles crowded with buyers and smiles on artists faces - but for the same reasons as in the past, nothing has really changed.
About the only thing linking the shows of the last five years or so and the glorious past is the quality of the work that is available to those few gallery owners that decided to make the trek to Baltimore two days after the Buyers Market closed . . .
